A 30-year-old man was severely injured after being attacked while he was in a shop in Maafannu ward in Malé on Friday night.
The man was attacked with a sharp object; he had to be rushed to the hospital immediately.
An official from the state-run Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) said on Saturday that he has been placed on a ventilator and is being treated at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
The official, however, did not specify the details of his injury.
After the incident, the police were at the scene of the crime gathering forensic evidence. They have not made any official statements regarding the assault yet. It is not known whether any arrests have been made either.
In a photo of the incident that circulated on social media channels, a group of people could be seen attempting to help the man while he was on the floor.
