The draw for the 288 land plots allocated in Kaafu atoll, Himmafushi, after a ten-year gap has been completed and the deeds for the beneficiaries have been handed over.
Himmafushi Council President Hassan Faiz stated that 486 people applied for the 288 allotted plots on the island. The announcement for applications was made in February.
During the meeting held at Himmafushi Stage area on Tuesday evening, the draws were conducted in order of the points received by the beneficiaries. Individuals with the highest points were prioritized. In case of a tie in points, the order of appearance on the list was considered. The beneficiaries were also presented with the deeds for their land on Tuesday night.
Faiz said that discussions are underway to allocate additional plots from the island, expressing hope that the process would be finalized by next year.
Himmafushi, with a population of over 1,200, last allocated land in 2013, which consisted of only 38 plots.
Plots will be allocated from the 21.6 hectares reclaimed in 2015 to expand the island's land area. Although the allocation of land in the area was initially opened in 2018 and 2019, it was later canceled due to various reasons.
