Noonu atoll Fodhdhoo, located in the northern province of Madives provides free coffee for its natives. This age long practice was established to strengthen the bonds within the island's small community of less than 200 people.
A distinct scene never before observed in another island is practiced in Noonu atoll Fodhdhoo, located in the northern province nearly 110 miles north of the country's capital, Male' City.
The unique island serves coffee to its residents without a charge.
A resident of Fodhdhoo stated that this practice has been followed in the island for a long time and that this is done with the aim of strengthening bonds between the inhabitants.
"This is something that has been done in this island for a long time. Coffee is free for everyone. No money is taken for coffee. This is done to foster friendship within the people of the island," said the native.
Fodhdhoo is a small island with a population of less than 200.
While the price of a black coffee is typically MVR 10 in the island, each shop offers free coffee for residents in order to foster love and friendship within the small community.
"This is a really good thing people can do at an island level," said the native.
