Qasim has stated that the act of dismissing the President as a conduct of political cynicism is a disregard for the people's decision and said that as long the president prevails his eligibility of the position, he should be given the chance to govern.
Leader of Jumhooree Party (JP) and Parliamentarian of the Maamigili Constituency, Qasim Ibrahim has said that the attempts at removing the President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu from his position due to a conduct of political cynicism shows a distasteful disregard to the people’s decision.
He said this in a post on social platform X while addressing the permit passed by opposing coalition, MDP (Maldives Democrats Party) and The Democrats members to submit a no confidence motion against the President, Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, who assumed office on November 17, 2023.
Qasim stated that these actions by a soon concluding parliamentary term that are being performed two months after the president’s inauguration cannot be accepted.
He added that as long the president lacks no conditions for being one and as long as he does not violate any conducts in the Constitution and laws, the attempts at removing him from his post as elected by a vast majority of the people’s votes is an act of looking down on the people’s decisions.
“While having the parliament’s majority, performing such acts out of nowhere in order to taunt is an absolute violation of the country’s constitutional guidelines. Such conduct only offers the country further sorrow and misery.” He said.
He has advised the opposition to cease these attempts to remove President Muizzu from his position.
As stated by Qasim, all of the president’s conduct after assuming office was to lead the country and the people towards innovation and development. Therefore, Qasim stated that the opportunity to govern and rule the country must be provided to the president by the Parliament.
