Villa College hosts Maldives first engineering exhibition

Villa College has hosted the Maldives' first-ever engineering exhibition, showcasing projects from students enrolled in Mechatronics, Mechanical, and Electrical and Electronics degree courses at Villa College's Faculty of Engineering and Technology.

The exhibition held on Thursday, highlighted the skills and creativity of students across various engineering disciplines. Head of the Faculty of Engineering, Udhuma Abdul Latheef, noted that the projects on display showcased the students' expertise in electrical, electronics, mechanical, and mechatronics engineering.

Among the 40 projects exhibited were innovative designs such as solar and ocean current-powered electricity generators, portable devices, voice-controlled machines, and innovations in disability care.

The one-day event concluded with the selection of the top three projects in each category. The first-place winners presented their projects during the closing ceremony.

Two of the best Capstone projects submitted at the exhibition were selected by a dedicated judging panel.

Speaking at the closing ceremony, Minister of Cities, Local Government, and Public Works Adam Shareef said that the exhibition had provided practical experience to engineering students. He emphasized the importance of promoting engineering in the Maldives and supporting students pursuing this field.

Vice Rector of Villa College, Dr Ali Najeeb, announced that many of the projects would be incubated and commercialized through the Villa College Incubation Centre. He also highlighted that the college now offers master’s programs to graduates of the Maldives’ first engineering degree programs in Mechatronics, Mechanical, and Electrical and Electronics Engineering.
