'Maaz' Saleem, who joined MDP 5 months ago, has confirmed the Henveiru West Constituency ticket by defeating Heena Ahmed Saleem (Bodu Heena), a veteran MDP member, having served as Sports Commissioner during the party’s administration.
At the MDP Primary elections to determine the contenders of the upcoming Parliamentary elections, Ahmed Saleem (Maaz Saleem) has secured the Henveiru West Constituency ticket.
This candidate who has served five months at the party had confirmed this ticket by defeating Heena Ahmed Saleem (Bodu Heena), a veteran MDP member who has previously served as Sports Commissioner during the party’s administration.
Maaz Saleem is a close companion of the same government’s Home Minister, Umar Naseer. Maaz had stayed with Umar as his running mate during last year’s presidential elections, until the end of the first polling results.
However, following Umar’s defeat in the first round of the elections, Maaz joined hands with the MDP presidential candidate and then current president, Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s campaign in September last year.
During last year’s presidential elections, Umar and Maaz had acquired the 4th highest votes out of 8 contending members with a count of 6000 votes.
Maaz had secured the Henveiru West Constituency seat with a collection of 61 votes in yesterday’s primaries. Bodu Heena had acquired 42 votes while the remaining contender for the seat, Hussein Shakir had collected 11 votes.
Multiple members who are presently representing MDP in parliament seats have secured ticket to contend for the seats in the new term.

Among current members who had faced defeat in the Primaries, Feydhoo North constituency contender who is presently serving as the Addu Meedhoo constituency parliamentarian, Rozaina Adam and Kelaa constituency member, Ibrahim Shareef are included.
With a collection of 251 votes, Ahmed Shareef (Dunga) has secured the Feydhoo North constituency’s MDP seat. With a total of 165 votes, the MDP ticket for Kelaa constituency’s seat was acquired by Ahmed Ghalib.
Ghalib has family relations with the president, Dr. Mohamed Muizz and had worked closely with the president in the past. However, Ghalib resigned from PPM [the ruling coalition] on June last year and had signed with MDP.
