The Minister of Islamic Affairs, Dr. Ahmed Zahir, stated on Saturday that the Ministry will make all their decisions, only after consulting with their existing scholars.
In his speech, Dr. Zahir, addressed the Islamic scholars of the Maldives, affirming that the ministry's main focus would be asking for their advice and direction, in order to improve religious standards in the country.
“The Ministry of Islamic Affairs has always stood up for their scholars,” said Dr. Zahir. “We will guide scholars through any difficulties they may face.”
During the event held late evening, the Minister opened the floor welcoming the opinion of audience members regarding methods that could improve the religious standards of the Maldives.
This marks the first instance in which Dr. Zahir addressed the Islamic scholars community since his recent appointment as the Minister of Islamic Affairs. However, he had previously met with the staff of various departments working under the Islamic Ministry
The newly appointed Minister of Islamic Affairs, Dr. Zahir, possesses a doctorate in Islamic Jurisprudence from Kulliyyah of Islamic Revealed Knowledge and Human Sciences on Islamic Studies'at International Islamic University Malaysia. In addition, he is credited with many years of experience gained from working in the ministry.
