President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih on Wednesday inaugurated a new mosque ‘Masjid al Birri’ in Villimale’.
To inaugurate the mosque, President Solih joined the congregation for the afternoon prayer.
According to the President's Office, the mosque has the capacity to accommodate 1000 worshippers at a time.
Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr Ahmed Zahir was also present for the ceremony.
Local media Mihaaru reported that Minister Zahir announced that three mosques will be inaugurated in capital city Male for year’s Ramadan in May.
Moreover, Minister Zahir stated that eight mosques will be opened across Maldives for the month of Ramadan.
