The State Trading Organization (STO) has introduced a course for Radiography for Maldivians interested to enroll. The event that marked the beginning of a long-term radiography course officially opened by Vice President Faisal Naseem.
The course will be conducted by a joint collaboration between General Electronic (GE) healthcare, Ministry of Health and the Maldives National University.
STO reported that 90 Maldivians applied for the course when it was accepting applications. However, 25 Maldivians have been chosen for the first batch.
The chosen students received their scholarships at a ceremony on October 6th. Both the course expenses and the stipend are covered by the scholarship.
The STO training center, where the course will be held, established its skills lab in June of 2021.
The training will last for two years and six months and include both technical and practical instruction in addition to a six-month internship.
According to VP Faisal, the implementation of this course will uphold the government's commitment to developing the nation's workforce and revolutionizing the Maldives' healthcare system. He exhorted the pupils to work hard in their studies and to take advantage of the opportunity.
The health minister Ahmed Naseem, stated that difficulties encountered caused the course to be delayed. He commended STO for taking the initiative and encouraged other SOEs to follow their lead.
Only 17 of the 150 radiologists in the Maldives at the moment are nationals of the country. It would be essential for the healthcare industry to teach Maldivians in the field.
The logo for the training institute was unveiled in the ceremony. The winning design was selected from the entries for the logo designing competition that STO held among its employees.
The Managing Director of STO Husen Amru is optimistic that more Maldivians would be motivated to pursue careers in radiography because it is a vital for the country's healthcare system.
