HPA urges caution as Covid cases increase again

Health Protection Agency (HPA) advised caution on Monday as the number of Covid-19 cases in the Maldives increases once again.

According to HPA, Maldives has recorded an increase in COVID-19 cases, with 142 cases reported last week alone. This is an increase of 69 percent compared to the previous week.

In a statement released by the agency yesterday, they said the number of hospitalized patients is also on the rise with the positivity rate. While only 15 people were admitted across the country in May, 11 people have been admitted so far this month.

HPA have therefore advised to take precautionary measures once again in order to avoid the spread of Covid again.

Things to lookout for

- If symptoms of the disease are found, they should be isolated and tested as soon as possible.

- Wearing masks (especially when visiting health facilities and high risk individuals)

- Providing information on isolation and contacts if tested positive.

- To complete vaccination doses (children between the ages of 12 and 18 years to have completed two doses of the vaccine and those above the age of 18 have completed two doses of the vaccine and a booster shot six months after receiving the second dose)

HPA noted that the Covid-19 situations appears to be worsen in some countries and that Maldives should take precautionary measures to avoid the spread as well.

The COVID-19 situation in the Maldives continues to worsen in some countries. Therefore, everyone should be to prevent the spread of the disease in the Maldives.

As per the statistics published by HPA, Maldives had a positivity rate of six percent in April. It did not raise above four percent the whole of May. However, with a sudden surge in cases, the positivity rate is above eight percent now.

After the mask mandate was removed, masks are rarely seen in Male'. Some people visit hospitals without masks as well.
