Health Protection Agency (HPA) announces the 227th COVID-19 fatality in Maldives on Monday.

The agency said a 80 year old Maldivian man admitted in Hulhumale' Medical Facility (HMF) passed away Monday afternoon.

This was the first COVID fatality of this month.

The spread of the coronavirus appears to be largely controlled in the Greater Male' Area, where nearly one-third of the Maldivian population lives. However, islands all over the nation have had surges in cases, and travel to and out of such islands have been controlled.

So far there have been 81,979 recorded cases of COVID-19 in Maldives. As of Sunday evening, 385,855 people have received at least one dose of the COVID vaccine.
