Luxury resort brand Soneva donated medical supplies worth USD 27,000 to hospitals and medical centres in the atolls of Noonu and Baa on Thursday.

Aimed to ease the strain faced by local health facilities amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the imported equipment includes medical tools to kit out baby delivery rooms, dressing rooms, consultation rooms, and hospital wards.

The supplies were handed over to local health providers at Eydhafishi, Baa Atoll, and Manadhoo, Noonu Atoll, during a virtual ceremony attended by Minister of Health Ahmed Naseem, Soneva founder and CEO Sonu Shivdasani, and officials from the Health Ministry, Baa Atoll Hospital, Noonu Atoll Hospital as well as local council representatives from the two atolls.

“We are thankful to Soneva for this generous donation, which would contribute towards our goal of upgrading the health services provided to our communities", said Minister Naseem during the ceremony.

“One of our core principles is about supporting local communities where we conduct business", stated CEO Shivdasani.

"As such, we are really happy to support the hospitals and medical centres in Baa and Noonu atoll".

Soneva, alongside Velaa resort, also funded a COVID-19 testing lab at Maafaru Airport in Noonu Atoll, which was unveiled in July before Maldives reopened its borders. Developed within a month, the lab provides quick coronavirus tests for both tourists and locals in the region.
