The Cabinet has approved a bill to facilitate the return of nurses and other health workers who have been out of service due to various reasons.
Speaking at a press conference held on Thursday to announce the decisions of the last cabinet meeting of last year, Principal Secretary to the President on Public Policy Abdulla Nazim Ibrahim said that after extensive discussions based on the paper submitted by the Health Ministry, it was decided to facilitate those who want to join work immediately.
For this purpose, the Cabinet has decided to provide employment in the health sector through an expedited recruitment process under a special scheme, he said.
Nazim said that people who desire to work fewer than eight hours a day will be able to do so within the established standards of the civil service by setting a salary based on their working hours.
Nazim said health workers over the age of 55 or retired qualified in terms of health, education, experience, skill, and availability of positions in the administrative structure will be employed on contract basis.
He said a study would be conducted and submitted to the Cabinet before the end of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's Hafthaa 14. He said the government would also conduct a study on the recruitment of former professionals in other sectors such as education.
