COVID-19: Wedding party cluster grows to 92 infected cases

Local media Mihaaru reported, on Thursday, that 92 individuals connected to the cluster identified from the wedding party held recently at the Society for Health Education (SHE) building, have now tested positive for COVID-19.

The cluster originated from one individual exhibiting symptoms, who attended the wedding ceremony held on December 20. A total of 120 people attended the wedding.

The Health Emergency Operations Centre (HEOC) had previously revealed that 260 samples were collected in the contact tracing process of this particular cluster. However, this number is now likely to be higher.

Several children and some high risk individuals connected to the cluster, which is one of the biggest COVID-19 clusters identified in Maldives till date, tested positive for the virus.

Moreover, five foreigners, including two women from Slovakia and Colombia, two Bangladeshi males, and one Sri Lankan male, are also amongst those infected.

At present, Maldives records a total of 13,967 virus cases of which 687 are active cases, in addition to 13,225 recoveries and 49 deaths.
