Health Protection Agency (HPA) lifts the mandatory quarantine unvaccinated travelers have to undertake when they travel within Maldives on Sunday evening.
The government lifted the Health Emergency that was announced in Maldives on March 12, 2020, two years later on March 13, 2022. This affected the various regulations in place to control the spread of Covid-19, such as the mask mandate, which is no longer necessary.
Wearing masks are now optional.
Additionally, travelers arriving Maldives will no longer be required to do PCR tests prior to landing. Previously all visitors are required to do a PCR test 3-5 days after arrival. However, this now has been dissolved.
Health Emergency Operation Centre (HEOC) spokesperson Dr. Nazla Rafeeq said in a press conference held last night that PCR tests will no longer be required to travel within Maldives as well.
However, she has still requested people to test for Covid if they have Covid symptoms when arriving to Maldives from abroad.
While unvaccinated people were required to quarantine previously when they travel within Maldives, this will no longer be required as well.
However, people with an active Covid infection will be required to quarantine.
She said that even though the Health Emergency has been lifted, they still have plans formulated which they will be following.
