The Prosecutor General's Office pressed charges against a man over vandalising the car of the only female taxi driver in Malé City.

According to the PG Office, Mohamed Hamdhoon was charged with damaging private property, for vandalising taxi driver Aiminath Hassan's car on October 26.

Although charges were pressed against Hamdhoon, another implicated individual's case was sent back due to lack of sufficient evidence.

The incident occurred while the vehicle was parked on Izzudeen Magu near Thoibaa Mosque, close to her residence.

Maldives Police Service arrested two Maldivian men, aged 26 and 28, in connection to the crime.

The taxi driver, Aiminath Hassan, revealed that the incident marked the fifth time that her vehicle was vandalised and raised concern that no action had been taken over the matter, despite reporting the acts to relevant authorities, including lodging a complaint at the parliament due to the lack of progress in the cases.

Aiminath further stated that she had to spend approximately MVR 10,000 to fix the damages after every act of vandalism, which interferes with her livelihood and income generation as a single mother.

The last time the car was damaged, Minister of Youth Ahmed Mahloof paid for the repairs.
