President Dr Mohamed Muizzu says all classrooms in government schools will be air-conditioned by the end of 2025.
Speaking on the "Rayyithunnaa Eku" [With Citizens] podcast, President Muizzu said the decision was made following public requests during his campaign visits, citing high temperatures across islands.
There are 3,604 classrooms in 217 schools. Of these, 800 have already been fitted with AC units. An additional 9,000 units will be needed to complete the project, with funding already allocated and procurement underway.
The plan also includes installing ACs in school halls, although the President said that goal won’t be achieved this year.
The ACs will be installed and the systems will be powered using renewable energy, he said.
