During Minister of Foreign Affairs Moosa Zameer's official trip to the United States of America, he has met with the Secretary General of the United Nations Antonio Guterres on Thursday.
The Secretary General commended Maldives' leadership role in the recent Small Island Developing States conference, as well as at other international forums in areas such as climate change and development financing.
Minister Zameer, meanwhile, emphasized that it is crucial to build on the progress achieved at the SIDS4 conference. He highlighted the important role of the UN in facilitating sustainable development, peace and security.
For the meeting, the Minister was accompanied by Permanent Representative of the Maldives to the UN, Ambassador Dr Ali Naseer Mohamed, Secretary, Bilateral, Dr Hala Hameed, Senior Under Secretary Hassan Hussain Shihab, and Second Secretary at the Permanent Mission of the Maldives to the UN, Naufa Rushdi.
