Police has requested Interpol for a yellow notice in efforts to obtain any information on Thasleem Mohamed, 43 who went missing during a trip to a sandbank near Kaafu atoll Huvanfenfushi following unsuccessful search attempts to locate the missing man.

Thasleem had gone to the sandbank with a total of 29 people, including two children, on August 29 for a birthday celebration and an engagement party. Thasleem was reported missing the day after around 13:00 hrs in the afternoon.
Police Spokesperson Ahmed Shifan had earlier declared that a criminal investigation has been launched due to suspicious circumstances around with the disappearance.
A statement published by police today revealed that Thasleem had joined the trip as an acquaintance of the trip organizers to oversee the backdrop and electrical lighting work of the celebration. The investigation received information that Thasleem had joined the trip and was with participants until 00:00 hrs that night, revealed the police, adding that Thasleem was spotted sleeping in the tent area after 00:00 hrs that night according to eye witness reports and photos taken during the trip.
The statement further disclosed that he was last seen on the sandbank between 07:45 hrs and 09:00 hrs in the morning of the day he was reported missing. Police elaborated that he had expressed he wanted to return to Male' and that participants of the trip had contacted Thasleem's family to clarify if he had boarded a vessel en route to the city after they failed to locate him to join a speedboat scheduled to leave between 10:00 and 11:00 hrs that morning.
"The investigation has also found that participants of the trip had commenced efforts to locate Thasleem once his family informed that he had not returned to Male'," the statement read.
"Another group of 12 people who had travelled to the sandbank for a trip at the same time were also questioned in connection to the case in addition to those who went on the trip with Thasleem. Moreover, forensic analysis on Thasleem's phone and laptop was begun and the two speedboats that were used by Thasleem and another party for a trip was also searched and inspected."
Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) had coordinated with the Coast Guard and snorkeled a total area of 943, 998 square feet from August 31 until September 6 to comb the area for a trace of the missing man. Thasleem's whereabouts remain unknown even after additional efforts to locate him by searching locations he had reportedly frequented in Male', police added.
Therefore, Police have now requested Interpol for a yellow notice to help trace the missing man.
Yellow notice is a global police alert published for victims of parental abductions, criminal kidnapping or unexplained disappearances to request for any information that could help locate the missing person.
