Ministry of National Planning and Infrastructure on Tuesday awarded the project to develop the harbour at Hanimaadhoo, Haa Dhaalu Atoll, to Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) for MVR 57 million.
The agreement was signed by the ministry's Permanent Secretary Zeeniya Ahmed Hameed while MTCC was represented by its COO Shahid Hussain Moosa.
According to the Planning Ministry, the harbour development project includes establishing a 355-metre outer seawall, 270-metre inner seawall, and 50-metre revetments.
The agreement grants MTCC a period of one year and two months to complete the project.
The Planning Ministry also tasked MTCC with establishing water and sewerage systems at Gaadhiffushi in Thaa Atoll, expanding the harbour of Felidhoo in Vaavu Atoll, and protecting the coast of Rasdhoo in Alif Alif Atoll, earlier this month. The total costs of these projects amount to MVR 47.5 million.
