Man robbed of over MVR 50,000 after being lured to a guesthouse

At the guesthouse, Malja, with the help of another local man, forcibly held the victim and stole his phone and cash card. They withdrew MVR 53,000 from his account.

Aishath Malja Moosa Didi, 27, has been remanded in custody in connection with a robbery involving over MVR 50,000 after luring a man to a guesthouse.

According to police, on August 26 at around 21:30 hrs, Malja, a resident of Seenu atoll Maradhoo had approached a man near Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) and invited him to her room. She then took him to a guesthouse in Maafannu ward, Male' City.

At the guesthouse, Malja, with the help of another local man, forcibly held the victim and stole his phone and cash card. They withdrew MVR 53,000 from his account.

The court has remanded Malja Moosa Didi for 15 days.

Recently, there has been an increase in robbery incidents involving luring victims to locations and using intimidation in Male' area. Such crimes are often carried out by groups, police said.

In a similar case last July, a man was lured into a house in Male', stripped, threatened, and forced to reveal the pin number of his cash card, resulting in a significant sum being withdrawn. The house has a history of such incidents, according to police.
