State Electric Company Limited (STELCO) has opened the window for submitting complaints regarding increases in electricity bills this month.
Many people have expressed concerns on social media about unusually high electricity bills.
STELCO in a post on social media X today, said that complaints regarding electricity bills can be submitted to the company's customer service number 7788438 via WhatsApp or Telegram, or emailed to [email protected].
"The company is working towards responding to customer complaints within a maximum of 24 hours," STELCO said.
According to STELCO, bills may see an increase during hot weather. However, the company assured that customers are not billed for more than their actual usage, and they can view their billable amount before bills are sent.
Since it's the rainy season, many have questioned the reason behind this month's increase in electricity bills. However, the company explained that before the rainy season began, there was a period of hot weather included in the billing period, which could have contributed to the increase in the bill amount.
A STELCO engineer also shared ways to reduce energy consumption on social media.
President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, after assuming office, announced discounts on utility bills, which the company had implemented. Discounts were also provided in the months of March and April due to high electricity bills.
