K-Park Residencies Director Hassan Mamdhooh is facing more than 100 criminal charges for alleged graft and misrepresentation of company assets for illicit enrichment.
The director is suspected of selling properties under K-Park ownership, by deliberately providing misleading information to prospective buyers about apartments.
The apartment complex is constructed by South Korean developer, HanboTech, which opened a local marketing agent, Hanbo Company which included Mamdhooh as minority shareholder.
Hanbo Company's majority shareholder, Jin, had sought damages from Mamdhooh for the alleged graft and misuse of company assets to make illicit gains.
According to charges brought forth by Jin, Mamdhooh had forged his signatures on apartment sale agreements to deceptively sell the units to buyers although the apartments were not completed.
Prosecutor General's Office has pressed 50 counts of misrepresentation for illicit benefits and another 50 counts of fraud, and three counts of forgery and one count of money laundering.
Additionally, the state is pressing 95 charges against Jaishan Saeed from Raa Atoll Alifushi, which includes 20 counts of misrepresentation, 27 counts of aiding misrepresentation, and 47 counts of fraud along with one count of aiding money laundering.
This is the highest number of charges brought forward against a single individual ever in the history of Maldives. Mamdhooh is looking at over 40 years of jail if convicted.
PG Office said the state was pressing charges of misrepresentation on Mamdhooh for attempting to sell the same apartment to multiple parties with misleading information, for illicit gains.
He is alleged of using the funds he received through this misappropriation to purchase a luxury apartment for himself. Mamdhooh is charged with forgery for replicating Jin's signature on agreements.
PG Office further said that the charges are related to Mamdhooh's illegal conduct of deceptively selling 23 of the K-Park Residencies' apartments. The office is also seeking compensation on behalf of the victims individually.
The office said that other elements tied to the case were still under investigation.
Authorities have already issued a travel ban on Mamdhooh with regards to the criminal charges against him, while Maldives Police earlier raided his luxury apartment and confiscated several expensive articles of leisure including designer bags and jewelry.
