Speaker of Parliament Abdul Raheem Abdulla and Maafushi MP Hussain Riza have been appointed today as Members of the Judicial Service Commission (JSC).

Speaker of Parliament Abdul Raheem Abdulla and Maafushi MP Hussain Riza have been appointed today as Members of the Judicial Service Commission (JSC).

As per the Constitution, both the Speaker of Parliament, and an additional MP nominated by the Parliament, will serve as members of the JSC.

MP Riza was approved by parliament yesterday as the parliament's representative in the JSC.

A special ceremony was held at the President's Office today where the two members took oath of office. The appointment letters were handed over to them by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu.

The rest of the members in the JSC are a member appointed by the President, the Attorney General, a Supreme Court Judge, a High Court Judge, a lower court Judge, a representative of lawyers, and a member appointed from the public.

It is a presidential pledge to change the current compilation form of the JSC.
