Following the return of former Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) president Hassan Luthfee to the Maldives after an extended period abroad, police have seized his passport launched an investigation.
It has been revealed that the police are currently investigating several cases associated with Luthufee, which require the collection of his statement as part of the inquiry.
Luthufee is currently in Addu Atoll. He was recently seen at The Gan International Airport, where he greeted opposition presidential candidate Dr. Mohamed Muizzu during his campaign tour in Addu this week.
During his tenure in office under former President Abdulla Yameen's administration, Luthufee faced an investigation into allegations of money laundering. The case, which involves multiple individuals, was filed by the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU), an agency established at the Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) to combat terrorism financing and money laundering.
