Maldivian Democratic Party's (MDP) Chairperson Hassan Latheef called on the authorities Sunday to investigate all the criminal allegations against President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom and to prevent him from fleeing the country.
While speaking to the press outside the Supreme Court, Latheef said that the theft, corruption and money laundering accusations against President YAmeen must be investigated immediately.
Noting that President Yameen's government is in power, Latheef said that anyone aiding him in escaping would be held accountable.
Latheef spoke with the press outside the Supreme Court, after the judges bench decided that there were not enough grounds for the Presidential Election held on September 23 to be annulled. President Yameen had filed the case at the Supreme Court soon after the election, claiming that the results had been tampered with and that the Elections Commission had rigged the polling.
