The External Affairs Minister of India Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, who arrived on an official visit to the Maldives this afternoon, is set to officially launch the Hanimaadhoo International Airport project being developed under Indian Line of Credit.
Minister Jaishankar was received at Maafaru International Airport, by the Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid, senior officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, President of the Noonu atoll Council and members of the Noonu Maafaru Council.
The Economic Ministry said today that President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih along with the minister will attend the inauguration ceremony of the Hanimaadhoo International Airport development project.
The Hanimaadhoo International Airport development project is being implemented under a USD 800 million line of credit from Exim Bank of India. JMC Projects was awarded the project for USD 136.6 million (MVR 2.1 billion).
The project agreement was signed in September 2022.

- The airport will serve 1.3 million passengers annually
- The airport will facilitate aircrafts to the size of A320 and Boeing 737
- The project will be completed within a duration of two years
According to the Foreign Ministry, Minister jaishankar will also participate in the inauguration ceremony of Shaviyani atoll Foakaidhoo Community Centre developed under Indian aid. In addition to attending a special ceremony to be held in Noonu atoll Manadhoo, Minister Jaishankar will also visit the Utheemu Palace in Haa Alif atoll Utheemu and tour historical sites.
During this visit, ministers of both countries are scheduled to hold official talks and witness the exchange of several Memorandums of Understanding between the Maldives and India.
