Vice President calls to promote Maldivian workmanship

Vice President Faisal Naseem on Monday night called on the people to work towards promoting Maldivian workmanship.

Speaking at the launching ceremony of 'Fannu Expo 2019', the national arts and crafts exhibition, held at the National Art Gallery, VP Naseem highlighted the diverse culture and traditions of Maldives and the creative workmanship observed across the archipelago.

Describing such workmanship as a demonstration of the Maldivian national identity in the international arena, the vice president declared that the current administration was working to encourage these talents. He further stressed on the importance of cultivating such skills through the education system.

VP Naseem urged the youth to recognise their roles in this endeavour and be more diligent, to work and be self-sufficient and contribute towards the economic development of the country. He went on to encourage them, in particular women entrepreneurs, to take advantage of the full potential of Fannu Expo and other similar opportunities.

The five-day exhibition, organised by the Ministry of Economic Development, is to be held from November 22-28 in Dharubaaruge convention centre, Kalaafaanu School and Children’s Park in capital Male' City.

Fannu Expo provides a platform for Maldivians across the country to showcase and market their art and craftsmanship. With 250 stalls, the expo will exhibit items in 77 different categories including construction, culinary arts, fashion and design, fisheries, handicraft, transportation, Information and Communication Technology, and literature. According to the President's Office, the expo is expected to attract over 15,000 visitors..
