The office said that a 4.7 magnitude earthquake hit 912 km away from Male' today.
As this is a low magnitude earthquake, there is no threat of tsunami to any area.
The earthquake hit at around 13:38 hrs this afternoon at the Carlsberg Ridge in the Indian Ocean. Addu is the closest Maldives atoll to this area.
The strongest earthquake to hit this area was a 7.6 magnitude earthquake on July 15, 2003.
