Judicial Service Commission (JSC) on Wednesday placed Mohamed Mausoom, the Chief Magistrate of the Haa Dhaalu Atoll judicial constituency, under suspension over serious allegations involving bribery and sexual harassment.
In a press statement issued by the commission following a sit-down, JSC stated they made the decision after looking into the progress of investigations into accusations of bribery, sexual harassment and other allegations against Mausoom.
The commission relieved Mausoom of his duties for a period no longer than 60 days.
JSC also commenced a probe last month into accusations made against Judge Ibrahim Ali of the Criminal Court claiming that he had issued an unlawful order. Furthermore, the commission is looking into a disciplinary issue pertaining to Judge Hassan Najeeb of the same court. He has been placed under suspension.
JSC is presently probing some cases involving judges of other courts well. The commission had in the past terminated some justices over disciplinary violations.
