The government of Maldives plans to hold a tourism symposium in the atolls of Noonu, Raa and Lhaviyani.

According to Minister of Tourism Ali Waheed, the symposium will be held in the administrative capitals of the atolls, Manadhoo, Ungoofaaru and Naifaru respectively, with the participation of island and atoll councils, lawmakers who represent the atoll constituencies, and resorts and guesthouses registered in the atoll.

The objectives of the symposium include exploring ways to facilitate employment and other opportunities in the hospitality field for Maldivians, and collecting opinions from locals on establishing tourism zones and increasing benefits for the atolls via corporate social responsibility programmes.

Minister Waheed further revealed that the government aims to hold symposiums in all atolls of the Maldives by early 2020.

The ministry will also hold a training session on inspecting tourism outlets for 178 councils on December 9, following which the councils will be tasked with inspecting guesthouses in their respective atolls.
