The Indian government on Wednesday gifted Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF)’s naval division, the Maldivian Coast Guard, with spare parts for military vehicles and vessels.

Indian Defence Advisor to the Maldives, Captain Prashanth Handu, presented the spare parts on behalf of India at a ceremony held aboard INS Cankarso, the Indian frigate that is currently conducting a surveillance operation in the Maldives in collaboration with MNDF Coast Guard. The gifts were received by the commander of MNDF Marine Corps, Brigadier General Ali Zuhair.

According to MNDF, the donated items include spare parts for Coast Guard’s flagship MCGS Huravee, military helicopter and Mark III vehicles. Brigadier General Zuhair thanked the Indian government for their generous aid.

The South Asian giant is one of the closest allies of the Maldives and has assisted the Maldivian military in various ways. Notably, the Indian government had gifted MCGS Huravee and two helicopters to MNDF, and also developed the military hospital Senahiya in capital Male.
