Prosecutor General's (PG) office has charged three councillors from Haa Alif Atoll's Dhidhdhoo over some forged documents.

The members who have been charged are Council President Ali Hashim, Vice President Mohamed Hashim and council member Zuhuraa, who are all members of main opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP). In addition to these three members, an administrative staff of the council office, Abdulla Matheen, has been charged as well.

Council President Hashim has three charges against him: for being an accomplice in counterfeiting of documents, for attempting to pass oft the forged documents as legitimate, and for obstruction of justice.

Hashim was previously arrested in June over some issues related to the documents.

Local Government Authority (LGA) had suspended the councillors of Dhidhdhoo on two occasions previously, and warned of the possibility of dissolving the council should there be a need to suspend them again.
