Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure (MNPHI) provides alternative parking spaces after vacating previous zones to develop stops for mini-bus operations, attests Male' City Council.

Deputy Mayor Mr. Ahmed Nareesh confirms allocating areas for parking zones, details of which has already been shared with the MNPHI.

The newly designated areas for general parking include;

- Plot from H. Samoasavilla

- Two areas from Ekuveni Sports Complex

- One zone near Dharubaaruge Convention Center

- One zone next to the Coral Boulevard in Rasfannu

Planning Ministry was expected to handover plots from Ports Complex, High Court and nursery run by President's Office. However, the plots have not been handed over to the City Council, claims deputy mayor.

These plots were included in the list of areas for mini-bus stop development. Meanwhile, the city's deputy mayor confirm the authority's ongoing works to acquire additional zones to develop parking areas.

The new parking zones will be designated to automobiles and two-wheelers for which zones have been rented out to, reports the City Council.

"We are currently working on developing the zones that have been handed over to us. We are facing delays in procuring the road bricks needed for the work," the deputy mayor confirmed.

He confirmed the zones will be completed once the authority acquires necessary material; including road bricks.

Earlier, Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) had requested from City Council to vacate several parking zones prior to commencing the mini-bus transport services.

According to the deputy mayor, they were challenged in identifying alternative parking areas for general parking - which he affirms the authority is currently working to resolve.

Initially, plans were set in motion to commence the public transport service by July 31. This was delayed in favor of acquiring alternative parking zones for general parking.

City Council reports that the mini-bus service will likely commence during August.
