President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has assured the residents of Haa Alif Kelaa on Sunday that, as per their wishes, he will build a resort in the lagoon of the island.
The President made this statement while meeting with the people of Haa Alif Kelaa yesterday afternoon during his ongoing trip to the atoll.
President Dr Muizzu said that the project will be further discussed with the government's economic council.
Additionally, he pledged to provide further resources to the already burgeoning agricultural activities in the island, noting the country's important role in the government's food security assurance policy.
The President's next stop was in Baarah of the same atoll.
There, he reasserted his intention to run a major eco tourism project in the island, in accordance with the pledges he made during the presidential campaign.
The President said that the project would be opened up for international bidding, and once done would present long term benefits for the future of the island.
Besides this major project, the President also assured to address current concerns of Baarah residents. This includes renovation of the dilapidated jetty, as well as the construction of a new jetty dedicated to fisheries activities.
