Criminal Court, on Tuesday, found two individuals guilty over the murder of Abdul Muheeth (Bobby) who was attacked in a narrow street in front of Ministry of Finance with a sharp object in 2012.
The state charged Mohamed Maimoon from Naifaru, Lhaviyani Atoll, Muhujathu Ahmed Nasih from Gahdhoo, Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll and Ali Mushaffaau from Maraadhoo, Seenu Atoll over Muheeth's murder. Although the state charged three individuals, Mushaffaau was acquitted of his charges.
Maimoon and Muhujathu have yet to be sentenced by the court following the court's verdict on Tuesday.
According to the Criminal Procedure Code, the punishment for cases in which the judge does not have the right to decide the sentence will be decided after negotiation from both parties.
The session to negotiate the sentence will be held within 10 days from the date on which the defendant is found guilty.
The state also charged an additional three individuals in Juvenile Court over Muheeth's murder. The court sentenced two of them to capital punishment, and High Court upheld the lower court's verdict on the matter.
The two cases are currently being processed at Supreme Court.
