Speaker of Parliament and Chairperson of ruling People's National Congress (PNC) Abdul Raheem Abdulla has criticized former President Abdulla Yameen today, stating that Yameen had distanced himself from the incumbent government because he could not bear to see another person serving as President.

In a post on social media X, Abdul Raheem responded to remarks made by Yameen in Thursday's People's National Front (PNF) rally. He stated that Yameen had stepped away from the government due to his ego and conceitedness, due to which he is unable to tolerate seeing another individual in the post of President.

Abdul Raheem addressed Yameen, asking him to refrain from "making bold statements in the hopes of taking in the public.

"Coveting the honours and luxuries of power. This is becoming even clearer to the public today because of the commotion you are making together with a couple of failed politicians," Abdul Raheem said.

In Thursday's PNF rally, Yameen said that he has a stake in this government led by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu. However, he claimed that he had distanced himself from this administration as he could not put up with the wrongs being committed.

Yameen strongly criticized the actions of the government in Thursday's speech.

Although Yameen makes these claims, he was seen to break away from the ruling party even before President Muizzu took oath of office. One of the things he took issue with at the time is the lack of people protesting on the streets calling for his freedom when he had been under house arrest at the time.
