Presidential Spokesperson Miuvaan Mohamed confirmed that President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has accepted an invitation from the UK to attend the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II, who passed away on September 8, Thursday.
Queen Elizabeth's funeral will take place in London on Monday afternoon, September 19.
According to the British Royal Palace, the funeral will be attended by several heads of state. However, foreign leaders are asked not to be accompanied by delegations, citing lack of space in the funeral area.
The British government said only the head of state and his/her spouse would be allowed to attend the Queen's funeral. In their absence, only the representative sent by that country will be allowed.
The Queen will be buried in the courtyard of King George VI Memorial Chapel, Windsor Castle in London.
Queen Elizabeth II of England, died at the age of 96 after a long reign of 70 years, at Balmoral Castle, Scotland. Following the Queen's death, her eldest son Charles has now become King.
