All bank accounts of Football Association of Maldives (FAM) were empty when the FIFA appointed normalisation committee took over the association, said the committee's Chairperson Ahmed Zuhoor.

Speaking at the first ever press conference initiated by the normalisation committee to disclose the status of FAM and the committee's work, Zuhoor said that they had to commence work at a "minus".

Zuhoor, who previously served in the public administration and finance sector, said that FAM has been the most challenging job he has ever undertaken in his career.

"Today, we're tasked with a very difficult job. We have to start from minus," he said.

"When we took over and looked to make an expense, there was no way for us to do that. There were no funds in any of the [bank] accounts when we took over," he further added.

Zuhoor went onto say that FAM's accounts have not yet even been brought to an operational state for the normalisation committee. However, documents required have now been compiled and submitted to the bank, he clarified.

"Despite this, even when we assume communication (with the bank), the most important documents have still not been received by us, due to which the most effective communication still hasn't taken place," Zuhoor explained.

He said that the committee has not received any documents required to run the association, and detailed that some documents are with various agencies and authorities for investigative purposes.

"However, both Maldives Police Service and Audit Office provide information as much as they can upon our request," he also added.
