Ministry of Finance published statistics that revealed state recurrent expenditure for the first six months of 2019 reached MVR 9 billion.
The expenditure for the same time period of 2018 was MVR 8.3 billion which is an increase of MVR 1 billion comparatively.
There was also an increase in state costs for salary and benefits this year between January and June, amounting to MVR 4.8 billion in expenditure. The same time period in 2018 cost MVR 4.5 billion.
Administrative costs reached MVR 3.8 billion, whereas MVR 3.7 billion was spent on costs for the first half of 2018.
Travelling expenses - MVR 91 million
Subsidies - MVR 543 million
Maintenance expenses - MVR 148 million
However, the overall government expenditure has decreased to MVR 11.7 billion in 2019, compared to MVR 12.7 billion last year.
This is a result of less expenditure used for government projects, with this years' project costs at MVR 2.6 billion.
