The redraw is underway for land plot recipients in Gulhi Falhu following amendments to the island’s land use plan.

Land plot recipients in the reclaimed areas of Gulhi Falhu and Giraavaru Falhu have already received their land registry documents. However, substantial changes to Gulhi Falhu land use plan have since prompted adjustments to plot allocations.

In response, the Ministry of Housing, Land, and Urban Development began a redraw of plots at 09:00 hrs today at Dharubaaruge Rannabandeyri Maalam.

According to the Ministry, today’s redraw includes recipients of plots in Gulhi Falhu.

A total of 3,520 plots are now allocated for Gulhi Falhu, including those for individuals requesting to switch from Giraavaru Falhu.

Details of land plots allocated from Gulhi Falhu

A total of 2,210 people have applied to transfer their land from Giraavaru Falhu to Gulhi Falhu.

The decision to transfer 1,347 plots from Giraavaru Falhu to Gulhi Falhu was made in April, following the revisions to Gulhi Falhu land use plan. A prior draw was also held for applicants requesting this change.

The 150 hectare Gulhi Falhu reclamation project was awarded to the Netherlands Boskalis company during former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's administration on October 17, 2019, with work completed this year.

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu earlier decided on reclaiming an additional 85 hectares from Gulhi Falhu.

Minister of Construction and Infrastructure Dr Abdulla Muththalib stated in a press conference yesterday that financing for further reclamation in Gulhi Falhu has yet to be confirmed.

The Minister added that a MoU has been signed with MTCC to secure the necessary funds.

Due to the depth of the planned reclamation area, the project is expected to incur substantial costs, according to Mihaaru News.
