Hulhan'gu monsoon, otherwise known as the South West monsoon which lasts from mid-May through November, bringing in heavy rains and strong winds to the Maldives is now intensifying with stormy days up ahead, warned the Maldives Meteorological Office (MET) today.

In a statement issued by MET, the monsoon is expected to become active from August 11, brining in widespread rain accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds reaching 40 to 45 miles per hour.

This weather pattern will continue for five days, starting this Sunday, said MET.

During this time, seas will be rough and MET urges everyone to exercise caution and consult updated weather information before planning any trips, particularly those who are traveling by sea.

In the days leading up to August 11, parts of the country have experienced gloomy weather with heavy downpours. The southern atolls, in particular, have been issued white alerts due to forecasted thunderstorms and strong winds reaching up to 40 miles per hour.

previously revealed that this year's Hulhan'gu monsoon is expected to bring unusual amounts of rain, particularly in the central and northern Maldives during July, August, and September.
