Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) on Thursday, revealed that private freight forwarding companies and brokers are charging additional charges on shipments, falsely claiming that such fees are imposed by MPL.
According to a circular released by the company, certain charges such as 'APCR', 'DCHT', Port Congestion Charges and Equipment Imbalance Charges are among those quoted as false fees.
MPL declared that it does not require additional charges unless stipulated in the company's tariffs and that no added charges will be fined for importers except for MPL's Handling and Wharfage fees.
Moreover, the company noted an increase in productivity and efficiency of services provided by the Male' Commercial Harbour since December 2018.
