Housing Development Corporation (HDC) announced Tuesday the development of a permanent local market in the reclaimed suburb island of Hulhumale.
HDC Municipal Services’ assistant director Ismail Shaan Rasheed stated that development of the permanent local market will commence towards the end of this year, and will be constructed in the land plot currently housing the island’s temporary market, south of the ferry terminal.
The corporation opens an annual temporary local market in Hulhumale for the Islamic holy month of Ramadan. This year’s market houses 12 stalls, each of which were sold for MVR 1500.
Shaan added that plans are underway to commence shipment of vegetables from the atolls to Hulhumale.
