The Parliament, on Tuesday, approved the names of four individuals nominated for the board of Maldives Inland Revenue Authority, as well as that of one member for the Tax Appeal Tribunal (TAT).
The individuals approved for MIRA's board include Mumthaaz Abdul Rasheed, Leena Mohamed Zahir, Husham Waheed ad Aishath Asha Ali.
The parliament endorsed Mohamed Munavvar Ali for the empty seat at TAT.
President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih had forwarded the names of eight individuals for three vacant positions on MIRA's board as well as a seat that will soon be unoccupied after the current member's term ends shortly. The President also forwarded the names of two candidates for the vacated seat at TAT.
After the review stage, the Economic Affairs Committee sent five of the eight names proposed for MIRA's board to the Parliament floor, while both of the names for TAT were approved by the Judiciary Committee.
Despite receiving the fourth-highest amount of points during the committee review stage, 53 members present during Tuesday's session voted against approving Ali Irufaan for MIRA's board.
Further, although the name of the fifth candidate Aishath Asha Ali, was moved to a vote, it was only because Ali Irufaan's nomination was not approved.
