Police have revealed that forty vehicles have been towed yesterday amidst their efforts to reduce the traffic congestion in Male' due to illegal parking and remarked that 15 vehicles were removed from one street alone.
Maldives Police Service has towed forty vehicles parked unlawfully across the streets of Male' City last night.
Police revealed that fifteen vehicles were towed from Ameenee Magu alone last night while forty vehicles were confiscated from various locations last night alone within the efforts exerted into removing vehicles parked unlawfully on the streets of Male' City.
This program to tow unlawfully parked vehicles in Male' City and Hulhumale' was launched last week in order to resolve the spiraled traffic situation on the streets of Male'.
Prior to implementation, the Police had issued a warning to drivers that vehicles parked unlawfully in manners that impede ease of travel for pedestrians and emergency vehicles will be towed.
The Authorities began confiscating vehicles that violate the laws after a long time due to the now habitual conduct of illegal parking of vehicles over pedestrian pavements and restricted parking roads which further impedes ease of travel for both other vehicles and pedestrians.
However, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu had earlier declared that parking stickers will not be issued until dedicated parking spaces are allocated. Hence, stickers are not issued to drivers who park their vehicle unlawfully.
