Parliament committees have been formulated after facing delays caused by amendments submitted by The Democrats. These amendments stipulated that the majority of committee members responsible for overseeing government accountability should not belong to the administrative government's party.

The proposal to ensure that committee presidents responsible for government accountability, such as the Public Affairs Committee and Government Oversight Committee, should not be from the current administrative party was put forward by Vilufushi MP Hasan Afeef, a member of the Maldives Democratic Party (MDP). The amendment was passed with 19 votes, while nine parliamentarians voted against it.

All 16 parliamentarians who participated in the vote concerning the standing committees unanimously voted in favor of passing the motion.

The matter of standing committees, which had been previously proposed, experienced delays due to the rejection of the proposal by MDP.

It is presumed that MDP made this concession due to ongoing discussions with The Democrats regarding the formation of an alliance.
