Villa College has approved 9 out of 10 grant proposals submitted to the college during the closing ceremony of the ICSRI conference. The conference this year saw 8 paper submissions and 53 abstract submissions.
Villa College has approved research grants of nine out of ten proposals submitted during the window extended by the college to request for grants.
The grants were announced during the closing ceremony of the college's annual International Conference on Social Research and Innovation (ICSRI) begun on June 8. These grants were approved for proposals seeking researches in the fields of health, environment protection and education.
Vice Rector of Villa College, Dr Ali Najeeb stated during the closing ceremony that the conference is an opportunity for many researchers to showcase their work and research projects. He added that much like the past 4 years, this year's conference is also built upon UN's targets for sustainable developments.
Highlighting the importance of Research Output Target Dissemination, he had further emphasized that changing the research papers to policy briefs and sharing them with political figures is highly essential.
He noted that these researches will assist in establishing policies and compiling developmental plans that clearly map out the procedure instead of political persons assuming what people want.
The closing ceremony of the ICSRI conference also saw awards granted to the best research paper from the submissions as well as awards for the best presenter, which was divided into two categories.
The best research paper was awarded to the paper compiled by Mariyam Nuha and Dr Aishath Shanoora on 'Effects of Encouragement on Cognitive Performance of Un-Abstract Reasoning Task'.
While the best presenter's award was offered to Associate Professor, Ismail Nizam and Assistant Professor, Damith Gangodawilage from the career researcher category, the award on the novice category was secured by Batool Zahoor, Fathimath Lamya Imthiyaz and Lianisha SR.
This annual research conference, held for two days, June 8 through 9 was titled, 'Innovation for Sustainability: Forging the Path Ahead".
The college said that they received over 53 abstracts submissions this year from both local and foreign participants alongside 8 paper submissions of various fields.
Apart from submissions, the conference had featured five panel discussions and four keynote speakers.
