Ibrahim Faih Nizam, who had evaded police for a month after being wanted for gang-related violence, has turned himself in and was ordered by the court to be detained for 30 days.
On February 15, police announced the search for Faih, 25, of Addu City's Maradhoo-Feydhoo ward, in connection with an assault involving a sharp object that occurred in a cafe in Malé in January. He evaded the police's attempts to find him and turned himself in on Tuesday night.
According to a police media official, Faih was brought before a local court, which ordered him to be detained in police custody for 30 days.
Senior members of the group Faih is associated with have been accused of concealing him from the police.
The police have arrested five people in connection with the case. While three of them have been remanded in judicial custody, two have been released on bail.
