Maldives Govt. buys 17 plots for MVR 878 million from Hulhumale'

The Maldives government has acquired 17 plots in Hulhumale' Phase 2 from the Housing Development Corporation (HDC) for a total of MVR 878 million.

Ranging from 15,000 to 66,000 square-feet, the land acquisitions have been declared legal by the Civil Court of the Maldives.

HDC is the primary proprietor of land in Hulhumale', and the government is obligated to purchase land from the company for development projects. Although the purpose of the recent acquisition remains undisclosed by the government despite the considerable expenditure.

The government previously spent MVR 1 billion to acquire land for diplomatic purposes. The purpose of the most recent land purchase has not been announced, but the government frequently purchases land from HDC for various developmental projects.
